is a long overdue post~ keke..
been almost 3 weeks since i am back from antalya, turkey.. had been feeling rather tired cos once i am back, i jumped back to work, giving tuition, kindergarten, kumon.. and i actually got quite depressed whereby i can't continue teaching chinese... but had since gotten over it.. =) hmm.. not to mention thinking of whether to take up the job..
well, anyway, this post gonna be all on turkey - antalya and a little of istanbul.. ^^ most prob will put more photos then words.. a little too lazy. hopefully i had taken the photos well.. =]
19th. left singapore for istanbul. at 13hrs flight whereby there was a stopover at dubai for 1 hour.. sitting SIA is really cool. with the lots of shows to watch. and can even learn basic foreign language! keke..
20th. reached istanbul at 7 plus am in the morning (12pm at singapore). it was really cold when i stepped out of the plane that mist can be seen when i speak.. we had to take a tram from the plane to the airport as there are quite a few planes which could not depart due to the volcanic ash in iceland..
visited Istanbul for half a day all by ourselves ^_^ started off by trying to make sense of their metro line and how do we get "tickets". i must say that everyone in turkey are really kind and helpful person. so the first person that we met was the metro station worker who was really kind to "intro" some popular places in Istanbul and trying his best to speak English so that we understand. We also tried hard to understand what he was saying.. keke..
anyway, it was difficult to travel in Istanbul and their train route is somewhat similar to Singapore whereby it is systematic ^_^ maybe is just the buying of token - ticket that was confusing in the beginning =] oh ya, forgotten to mention. is quite exp to take the metro as compared to singapore but is one of the cheapest way to travel around istanbul.. one token cost 1.50 lira which means 1.50 sgd now.. despite the distance u are travelling..
token to take the metro..

first place that we visited... Galata Tower. Is a place meant to see both Asia and Europe since half of Turkey was said to be Asia and the other half Europe. More importantly. it was said to have a 360 degree view of the city whereby some famous buildings such as blue mosque, Hagia Sofia can been seen from the tower.. we had to climb a flight of stairs before reaching the base to enter the Tower... really some climbing walking exercise that was... keke.
beginning of the journey to Galata Tower.

taken while on the train. not too sure what mosque is that.. =p

Headed off to Blue Mosque. But as we visited the mosque during their prayer time, thus, we were not able to see the interior part of the mosque whereby the interior is said to be of a grand scale whereby the interior is made of blue tiles... Anyway, only managed to take photos of the exterior.. maybe next time... =)

entrance. vistors had to enter from another door. which is this as shown..

Next, lunch time.. hmm.. the lunch wasn't very nice.. but i like the ambience of it.. I had chicken shish and turkish tea (also known as ςay), while Ai Ni had Döner Kebab... pictures of chicken shish and Döner Kebab to be seen in part 2...

ςay

Continued our exploration at the Yerebatan Sarayi, or Sunken palace, also Basilica Cistern.. think they are the same with different name.. it was said to be build by the byzantine emperors... some empire many years ago, maybe century...? This Cistern once held a large amount of water but now they dun. however, there are occasional water dripping from the ceiling.. the main attraction in the cistern is not only the columns, construction built but also the 2 Medusa's heads that is upside down/sideway...

The last place that we went was the Hagia Sophia. Also one of the tourist attraction. However, part of it is now being maintained. I suppose for the Istanbul 2010 event....
some left over ruins.. such as the pillar etc...

okay, i am beginning to be really lazy to write more.. so i shall really stop here for now.. part 2 will be coming up.. ending off with lots of tulip pictures... yup! it so happened to be the season for tulips. tulips are everywhere. EVERYWHERE... with all sort of colours.. =)

Other places worth visiting next time would be the Grand Bazaar as well the Topkapi Palace, Hippodrom, as well as Troy.. if time permits.. can even take a bus from Istanbul to Greece ^.-
